Vertical Turbine Pump Pedestal

Is there a rule of thumb on size/weight for a concrete pedestal supporting a vertical turbine pump? This is a booster pump application with the pump in a 10' deep barrel.

For a rule of thumb contact the manufactureror or check out their design guidelines,otherwise, you'll have to determine all external forces and moments on the concrete pedestal and the type of base on which you'll have for the pedestal. Vibratory and starting forces and alignment may also have to be considered. Reinforcement of the concrete pedestal and anchoring of the equipment would need to be considered.

With a vertical pump taking suction from an open water surface you must determine the downward thrust caused by the water column. This is determined by the pump discharge pressure and the area of exposure, typically the area of the impeller. The manufacturer should have this info, typically in the curves. This number is also used to determine line shaft stretch and the size of the motor thrust bearings.
