VFD for Blower

Does anyone have any ideas on how to prevent a blower from going into surge in a VFD application? Since the blower is going to operate at different speeds, it seems that just looking at one pressure will not protect the system at other (higher or lower) speeds.

I forgot to mention that I would prefer to blow off excess air to keep this from going into surge, since the Inlet Guide Vanes are out of service.

You did not mention the application you were using the blower on. Typically blowers only have a 5:1 turndown ratio so if you are using a VFD you might be able to program in a minimum setting so that your blower does not surge.

From the fan curve you will note that the line will stop before it reaches the 0 volume point - it is important when sizing a blower to review the fan curve to be sure it is suited for your operating conditions.
