Hi,

I have a dynamic analysis problem involving a steel structure and glass panes. The glass panes are looseley attached to the steel structure. They contribute mass, but not stifness.

I am having a bit of trouble figuring out how to model this. The steel structure is a beam model and, for the glass I have a choice between a classic plate element and a memebrane element (in-plane stress and freedom in the x and y direction)

So I consider either using the membrane element as is, or using the plate element with thickness reduced to 1mm and applied nonstructural mass. As I am a bit sketchy on the theory I am not certain if either of those two approaches is correct.

Any advice would be helpful.
