Vibration isolation in commercial truck

Hi All,

I am mounting a rectangular structure(115 lb)on the underbody of a commercial truck and need to isolate the vibrations being transferred from the truck while driving; The truck produces a low random vibration (1-15 Hz). I have been exploring options such as visco-elastic rubbers, and seeing if there's a product more "high-end" as far as actively correcting for any vertical displacement. Such as actuators. But I have not found a product off-the-shelf so far...

Any recommendations (companies, products.. ect) or guidance as to what would be best for isolating vibrations as much as possible? As expensive as the options might be!
The isolation could be either from below or above (hung).

I'm a bit confused as to what you want to do. If you isolate the box from 1 Hz then the truck will climb the hill and your box will burrow into the road.

Which part of the frequency spectrum are you actually bothered by?

Passive systems:

bungee cords (excellent isolation) Use ropes to limit max travel.
airsprings
rubber shear mounts
steel springs

Active systems:
Bose truck seat

I think the simplest solution is likely to be stainless steel tension springs with wire ropes as travel limiters.

Of course without a better spec it is hard to say.

Thank you, Greg. The Bose system sounds like it could be a candidate although it looks like they sold their technology to ClearMotion and ClearMotion is still in R&D phase.

I'll put some accelerometer this week to get a realistic idea of what the vibrations range from a commercial truck. But yes, I need to minimize the vertical vibration as much as possible as I have sensors that are very sensitive to the vertical motion.

Thank you guys for the links, I am checking each one.

Perhaps you'd be better off measuring the acceleration in situ and compensating your other sensors.

As Walt implies, isolating for 1 Hz passively is not normally achievable (although it is possible) and not normally required. If you are serious about 1 Hz, perhaps you should be floating the item in a fish tank.
