Vibration Sensor compatible with MRI

Hello,

I am working with a 7 Tesla MRI system and I would like to measure the vibrations caused by the system during the scanning.

I am looking for a sensor which is compatible with MRIs. Or, alternatively, I am looking for the vibration measurement methods for MRI systems.

Would appreciate if you can share your knowledge in this field.

Obviously typical accelerometers have metal in them, which I would guess is a no no. You can use a laser vibration meter, laser doppler, or you could develop a piezo accelerometer made from non metallic substances, perhaps. Other options include SPATE, an infrared based camera system. I have used the laser systems, both I used measured at a distance.

I'm not qualified to give sn answer here but was intrigued by your question. It seems MEMS types accelerometers are likely the best solution.


MEMS sensors are silicon based as far as I can tell and should be immune to magnetic effects. Fortunately,they are also the least expensive.
 
MEMS solution seems the most logical to me as well. I need to buy a board tho.

Thank you for sharing this provider with me, from what I understood, they have the products that will fit my problem.
 
I also have concerns regarding the microcontroller. At first, was thinking about a solution which utilizes an I2C interface to use with Arduino or RasperryPi, but don't really sure whether it will be okay or not.
I need to make some tests to make sure I guess.

Check out Micronor. They make fiber optic based sensors that can operate in an MRI environment.

The 7T magnetic field isn't your only challenge. The switching gradient fields in the magnet bore can and will induce current in any electrical cables, leading to a lot of signal noise.
 
Are you studying the stress within the magnet assembly and its structure or field induced movements of the object scanned?
