When doing work for GM, we have the luxury of using their toolkits with buttons that dont seem available in NX.
We are now doing non-GM work and have to use a different session of NX that is not connected to their toolkits, as they do not want us using their tools to do others work.

One of those things was the ability to transfer drafting items from the drawing to the expanded view, as well as transfer drafting items from inside the expanded view to the drafting again. Basically I can draw a line and transfer it to be inside the view but not actually in modeling, and transfer it from inside the view back to just a drafting object on the sheet again. When it transfers, it automatically adjusts its scale to look the same when you print it.

Since GM has a toolkit designed to do this, it just seems there must be a way to do it manually, even if it takes more steps. All I can find is to transfer objects from drawing to modeling and back, which is not the same thing.

Would anyone know of a way to do this?

PS
I have a second thing to ask but figured I would put it in its own post.

I think view dependent edit translates items from being view dependent to being model entities, but those view dependent entities have to be within the view. Drafting items created outside of the view are a different animal.

They use this when making weld templates. I guess they have had trouble in the past with spot numbers not being sent to the plotter. So they transfer the numbers to be expanded inside the view.

They also use this when they have common product between two different jobs. They will transfer the spot numbers, their symbols, the Trihedron and often even the title blocks into the view before transferring the views from one file to another. This way it all goes for the ride and when they transfer it back out of the view in the new file, a lot of their work is already done.

I get the feeling this is not something that NX offers and GM just had created using grip or snap or whatever. lol My guess is anything we select is copied and then expanded into the view and pasted and scaled according to the scale of the drawing?

I have never dug into how it worked before. I might have to try playing with that and see if I can record a journal or something. Worth a try.

Be surprised. Be very surprised if you dont hear back from me pleading for help. lol

Running into trouble with just the copy paste idea. I can copy notes and lines and such in drafting, then expand into the view and paste. They always come out way off in space. Not in the same orientation and position to the view. Which is understandable as they are moving from a 2D view to a 3D view, I guess.

Does anyone know if there is a trick to get something to end up in the same position inside the view?
