Viewing PMI notes in drafting 1

Hi,

I am a fairly new user of NX7.5 and have the following issue:

I have a model of primarily lines and curves on a plane.
This is displayed as various TOP views in drawings, with layers toggled on and off.
I would like to apply some text to the model (rather than a view), so that it scales with the surrounding geometry.
I believe the only way to add "drafting-style" text in a model (as opposed to the outlined TTF that's available) is using a PMI note.
I have added the PMI notes to the same reference set (drawing) as all the rest of the geometry, but they are greyed out in the Part Navigator and do not display in the drafting views.

Does anyone have any ideas about how I can achieve my aim (not necessarily with PMI notes!)

Thanks

Liz

Before you add views to your Drawing, go to...

Preferences -> Views -> Inherit PMI

...and toggle on the 'Aligned to Drawing (Entire Part)' option as well as the 'Inherit PMI onto Drawing' option.

Then when you place your Drawing views make sure that you're actually selecting views from the Master Model part since that it where the PMI objects are located.

BTW, you don't have to mess with Reference Sets to make this work.

And just for the record, if you don't change the View Preferences before you add your view(s) to a drawing, as long as the views were the actual model views from the Master Model part, you can edit the views after-the-fact and using the Style dialog you can change those Imherit PMI options so that the PMI object are now visible on the Drawing.

Hi John,

Thank you for the quick response. I've edited the style of the view already added to the drawing, but unfortunately the PMI objects didn't appear and a model sketch disappeared. When I go back into the Style dialog, the Inherit PMI option is set back to None.

I appreciate that this may not need Reference Sets, but this is a legacy file and has been set up with them (I've found that anything not included in the Drawing reference set doesn't show....I must admit I don't fully get the point of them :))

Unfortunately, PMI objects cannot be added to a Reference Set.

Ah, so I guess it just won't be possible for me to do this with the setup of this model. Not to worry, I will add notes in the drafting view.

Thanks for your help.

Hi John,
I'm trying to use PMI in the drafting, but I've some problems.
I've enabled in the customer default the 'Allow PMI Bidirectional Edit', but I'm not able to edit the dimension value with double click on the dimension.
I'm not able to move the PMI dimensions in the drawing to rearrange the position.
The PMI dimensions are dashed.
I'm non able to inherit the PMI height of the cube.

Thank you...

Could you provide the model and drawing files?
