I am a welding inspection engineer.
I want the information on the tolerance of the welding defect.
thank you in advance.

imadell,

Your question cannot be answered without more detail. Construction Code, type of weld, type of defect...

Para. 344.6.2 ASME B31.3 for ultrasonic examination of welds, and elsewhere in the ASME B31.3 Code.
(a) Table 341.3.2 states acceptance criteria (limits on imperfections) for welds. See Fig. 341.3.2 for typicalweld imperfections.
(b) Acceptance criteria for castings are specified in para. 302.3.3.

imadell,
How long is a piece of string ??
If you are a Welding Inspection Engineer as stated you should be a qualified person who should not be posting questions like this on here.
If you have a code or standard you are working to - examine it and then come with questions,
Otherwise you are wasting our time,
Regards,
DD

Codes provide defect minimums. They do not define a tolerance; e.g., cracks are prohibited regardless of size, undercut > 3/32" deep means just that - not 3/32" + 1/64".

Notwithstanding the above, a customer specification would further define the limits of acceptability; the same imperfection may be a discontinuity (relevant or otherwise) as evaluated to some relevant code, by may be considered to be a defect by customer specifications.

do we need to qualify branch weld (weld 'o' let to run pipe) full pen groove weld separately as per ASME B 31.3? which category this will be considered as whether fillet or butt joint as per ASME Sec IX for qualification? please share your valuable knowledge.

Not sure where your question fits in with the rest of the thread but anyway......No, you do not need to qualify branch welds separately. And as you stated...it is a groove weld.

I wonder if this question really come from someone who call himself an engineer.
