Hi ever

I have modeled symmetric analysis of a circular plate loaded by a ring.I have used abaqus CAE for prepocessing file. The material is elastic isotropic, then I used 3D general static analysys and mesh with 3Dquad elements.
I need to visualize the results and know the displacement where I have applied the load but in visualization I didn't find how I can visalize the node where I have applied force and their displacement at the same time.
I think the model itself is somehow OK, some suggestion??

thanks

nikko

Nikko801,

In order to read the node numbers during post processing, you may have to work with an orphan mesh. Then you could look up the node number where the load is applied in assembly and then go to visualizer and look up the displacement on the same node number.

You could put the node of interest into a node set in CAE. That way, you can create an X-Y plot of the displacement in Viewer. No need to orphan the mesh that way.

You may want to use path in viewer if you want the result along a edge.

thank you guys for the helpful.

Gurmeet what is an orphan mesh??you means dependent or independent instance?

How I can visualize with cae..?for example I have apply the load to a circular plate on a ring of 1mm thickness at radius r but I don't know whate nodes are (my problem is know which are the node of interests).

can I have a graphical visualization?

You are mechanical engineering.. I have an other question about this problem..

If I use the theory of plate and solve an analytycal solution for the plate pinned at the end with a line load on acircle of radius r you think the number that I will find should be approximately the same order of the numerical solution, (for displacement, stress etc)?

There are different theories for plates and shells. The most known are the Kirchhoff theory which applies to thin plates and Mindlin(-Reissner) theory for thick plates.

The plates FE are based on a specific theory (e.g.,on Kirchhoff theory) . Therefore, when comparing the numerical solution to the corresponding analytical solution of the same problem, it is best to use the FE based on the same theory as the analytical solution.

I have used the theory of plate of Timoshenko, however I don't know how can visualize graphically the value of stress and deformation of the nodes with Abaqus togheter with the visualization of the load applied. It's not a very intutitive program!!

I am just a little curious: by "theory of plate of Timoshenko" do you mean Timoshenko's book "Theory of Plates and Shells" ??

Since you do not find the program intuitive, I recommend you reading the "ABAQUS/CAE User's Manual".

yes I mean that book. the problem in my case is: I want to visualize in the results the node where I applied the load. Somenone can explain how we can d. Is it pssible is so difficult and there is not a easy mention on the abacus cae user's manual!!?

as other said, you could created a node set in CAE and then view the results of that node set in viewer.

If you do not like to moified the CAE file and rerun the analysis. read the following may help you.

ABAQUS manual 6.6 Section.
31. Viewing results along a path

However, If you just need to know the value of a single node, I would just go in viewer, Report Tab> Field output> and output the require the field with the node number that you applied the load on.

To turn on the node number in viewer, in Version 6.6. the icon under Module called common option> labels tab> show node label.
