WACS on Amada FO3015

I am cutting 3/4 plate, and have some questions about how the WACS head is actually supposed to work, I have it working but once and a while it seems that maybe the water screws up the Z-Tracking???? I do have a very fine mist spraying out, possibly I can turn the flow down a little tiny bit more though. Is it necessary to have the water mist spraying while cutting 3/4, I read on a post I found while doing a search someone suggested to another person to use WACS with the water off while cutting 1/2 thick plate. Also about 1 in 6 or 8 pierces will blow up and that caused trouble with Z tracking also what thoughts to change for that, or is it caused by material?? Peirce conditions are 4000W int freq 10
initial duty 7 inc freq 5 inc duty 1 pirc time was 20 I have it up to 28 now gas pressure .06 using oxygen

I increased the time to watch it better and what it looks like to me is the pierce is completely through then it blows up. so maybe a setting in the actual cut conditions?
 
out of frustration I shut the water off on the WACS and just have air blowing through it and it seem that now I have good pierces more often than bad ones, once and a while I will still get a blow out. Other than Amada where is a good place to look for someone I can hire to come for a day or two to teach me some cut conditions and things like that, I have a fairly good handle on how to operate the machine just need to learn about what the different setting in the cut conditions mean and what happens when you make a change. I have a file I found Cutting know how from amada that has trouble shooting for poor cutting which has helped some but this pierce I have tried everything I feel comfortable with and couldn't get it to consistently make a decent pierce till I shut the water off.

Let me say a few things first. I enjoy reading your posts. I am sorry for not responding sooner. I am a little embarrassed that the Amada serviceman did not fix your problem with the 4063. Foostrap has you on the right path with that one.

WACS. Very nice when it works but a real pain other wise. My advice to all Amada machine users with WACS learn how to cut without it. The reason I say that is because all other manufacturers cut beautiful parts without it. Use WACS when you really need it, small holes, tight geometry, small web between parts. Other than that, I like the 4.0 Double. Same nozzle used for heavy SS and AL.

What I have experienced is small pieces of slag get caught between the outer and inner nozzle. When you have one of those blow up pierces, you have to stop the machine, unscrew the outer nozzle and clean them out. If you don't they mess with the Z sensor.

With out writing a book, break you cut into four major parts, pierce, approach, edge, and cut. I bet your having a bit of trouble on the approach data and not your pierce. On that page (edge) the only things applicable is the WORK ANGEL, RECOVERY DISTANCE, RECOVERY FEED, DUTY and FREQ. Try thinking of this page as a mini cutting condition. One that only applies for 0.100"
 
When you say it pierces through, and then blows up; not sure if Amada does that, but on LVD machines, once the piercing in thick material is done, they cut a tiny little circle. Basically this is to open up the piercing hole diameter. If the piercing hole is too small, it can cause issues at the startup of the cut (not enough opening for the melted material to go down at startup). If the power for that "pierce hole opening" process is too high, it could result in a blowout.
 
Thanks guys, I am ordering that retrofit kit for the 4063 alarm. The other night I cut an entire program that included two big parts that I have been having trouble with and it cut everything great. I would say that it worked because I left the center cover on the back of the resonator unit off.

I will play with some numbers more on that approach you are talking about I am positive it is after the hole is pierced though the plate and I an having trouble with 1/2 and 3/4 thick. I will give the 4.0 double a try I can cut 1/2 perfect with the cut condition for the non-WACS head. I am hoping to see an application guy soon to show me how to use this thing. Do you work for hire?

Footstrap, I don't believe this machine makes the pierce hole any larger just pierce then pause, then pulse a few times and then start moving.
 
This might be a dumb question but when looking at the edge page how do I know what condition number it is using, none of the highlight in green like on the other cut condition pages. There is 201-205 to choose from the top two have 0 for work angle 3000 for power and the bottom three have 170 and 4000 for power cutting .75 thick material
 
under your main cut condition tab there is a line for "edge data" simply type the edge condition you want to use in that space
