Want to claculate force on a plate when they are bolted

Hi,

May be it is a very simple question. I need some help to calculate clamp force when two parallel plates are bolted by 2 or 4 bolts.

May be I can use the equation T=(K*D*W). But I would like to know when 2 or 4 bolts are used over two rectangular plates (2"x2") how the clamp force will be changed. Is there any handbook or software available to select a bolt diameter, no. of bolts and length where clamp force is pre-selected.

Gross total clamp force, easy, distribution, maybe much harder.

It is generally assumed (and documented) that a bolt's clamping force radiates in a 45 degree cone. So, say, for a 1/2 inch bolt in a 1/2 inch plate, most of the clamping force is contained in a 1 1/2 inch diameter circle at the base of the plate.
