Does a quit claim deed need to be filed to gain/lose acreage due to a substantial man made change of course for a navigable river.

In Massachusetts, where I prctice, man made changes are deemed to be "Avulsion" and the property line is determined to be held where it was before the change. When the river changes at a rate "imperceptible to the eye" the the boundary changes with the river.
 
Your heading refers to navigable river - this may have an effect on ownership rights as well as the boundary position.
