Hi,
I am looking for a program that can model small water treatment systems for camps and resorts. Basically our set-up is always an intake from a lake source to a low lift pump station through treatment (filters, uv, chlorination) and then to a holding tank or standpipe.

How can I model the pressure losses through the filtration system. I suspect you can get rather large losses through a 1 micron filter when flow rate is close to the maximum allowable for the filter.
Is there any way to calculate the losses through a series of filters?

Thanks
Joe

EPANET, but that's way more than you need for such a simple linear system of flow elements. That is no more than XL spreadsheet stuff.

Independent events are seldomly independent.

Thanks BigInch.

How do I find pressure losses through a series of cartridge filters?
DO you have a sample spreadsheet on hand?

Assume 1-2 psi pressure drop for a clean filter and a maximum of 10 psi for a dirty filter.

Bimr.

Is the assumed pressure drop for a 25 micron filter the same as a 1 micron filter?

Thanks for your help.

Yes that would be typical maximum for each individual filter. If you had two filters in series, then the headloss would double.
