Gentlemen, I’m facing this problem: a pipe placed at about 30 m depth has been damaged and possibly broken. The pipe wasn’t in service so it was empty. To analyze the water taken from the inside of the pipe (if any) and (for comparison) the water of the surrounding sea, can give some information of what can be happened into the pipe from the damage time to the present (i.e. what’s the corrosion rate that can be considered)?

Comeback with some more information about the pipe like type,size, and what was in it orginally and so on.

What is the prurpose of the pipe as 30 meters is quite deep for pipeline unless it's going under something.

What is the nature of the sorrounding water, ph and others?

Dear unclesyd, the pipe is new and never used, for the information I have available it is quite small (4" or 6"), carbon steel made and designed as a piggyback line or similar. Sorrounding water composition is unknown and it will be sampled together with the one possibly found inside the pipe
