Wax Cloud 1

We are currently having trouble with diesel blending regarding wax cloud. We have adjusted both light cycle oil, and kero. The LCO I assume should help, since it is very aromatic, but our LCO typically has a wax cloud number around 30-40, much higher than we would like. Does anyone have any insight into diesel blending and/or wax cloud issues?

Suggest you contact several of the petroleum specialty chemical suppliers such as Baker-Hughes, Nalco, GE-Betx, et al as these folk have a wealth of practical experience with cloud point and pour point issues and corrective mechanisms.

Does anyone know of a wax cloud predictive equation for blending? Since it's not a linear blend like sulfur, I need some type of equation to get an idea of what the wax cloud number would be for various blends.

Again, rather than looking for the haystack needle, go to the people who do this for a living.....I listed some of the majors in my earlier post.

Cold flow properties like pour and cloud blend based on indices
So if you make belnds with Kero, SRGO, HAGO, LCO etc they will all follow these correlations to a high degree. There are deviations hence you might have to correct the blend to some extent but if the components are analysed correctly (as well are representative) you should come out quite close

The additive suppliers can help you with chemicals that affect one or several of the cold flow properties to a certain extent. The response is however very dependent on the compostion and the components used. That is the reason why freqeunt additive testing is needed.
