Hello,

Could anyone point me to a design example for a web doubler plate for a coped beam? I have been looking online for quite a while now and can't seem to find a design example.

Alternatively if you have a hand / spreadsheet calculation that would be helpful.

Thannks!

Never done a web doubler plate before for a coped beam before, I typically do transverse and longitudinal stiffeners.

But from understanding it is used when the h/tw<60. The doubler plate thickness, td req, is determined by substituting the quantity (tw+tdreq) for tw in the available strength calculations for flexural yielding and local buckling. To prevent the local crippling of the beam web, the double plate must be extended at least a distance of depth of cope beyond the cope.
