Hi All,

One of the workshops I visited had a lifting beam and web slings. The lift beam is made from a I-Beam. The web sling has been wrapped around 1 or 2 times as the sling is long. Can you please advise

1. Is wrapping of a web sling permitted around a I-Beam, even if the edges on the beam are protected?
2. Is there any edge radius limitations on the web sling?

I am more keen to refer to a standard which specifically mentions this. Anyone can guide me to the particular standard if there is?

Thanks in advance.

When dealing with soft lines, I usually try to stay with at least a 10:1 D to d ratio.
Although we regularly use shackle to connect to the eyes of a sling which is nowhere near that ratio.
I would think that the sling manufacturers would have guidelines on their web sites.

Different sling materials have very different properties and restrictions.
You need to get information from the sling manufacturer.
does this shop have a quality program?
If so then they should have a procedure that addresses sling usage.

I would try starting with ASME B30.20, "Below-the-hook Lifting Devices"
