Weight Calc Question 2

I am using cement blocks in an assembly and corresponding assy drawing to show how a product is installed to the block wall. The problem is with the automatically generated weight in the title block. SW is including the cement blocks. Is there a way to have the weight calculation exclude certain items from the feature tree? Removing the blocks from the drawing is not an option.

How about adjusting the density of the cement blocks to near zero, or setting the material to air.

In the Cement Block part, go to Tools, Options, document Properties, Material Properties and enter a really small value, like .00000000001, in the density field. SW won't accept zero. The result will be virtually mass-less cement blocks.

Hi, Cygnas:

If you wish that your assembly does see certain components' weight, you can exclude the components from the bill of materials. Or, you can model your cement blocks as envelope parts (weightless part).

Even easier, in the cement block part look in the mass properties dialog box for a check box with "Assign Mass Properties" beside it. Check this, put 0.00 in the mass field and click ok. You will find that assigned mass properties are useful for all sorts of things, especially when dealing with downloaded gearbox models and other mechanical contraptions. All you have to do is input the correct mass from the mfg's catalogs.
