The foundation loads and weights seem one of common issues commented during design & engineering document review. Sometime, you have to resubmit GA drawing & calculation that is just because of the foundation loads or weights commented (note: another round review at least for 2 weeks for each sides). The typical comment is like ‘weights or foundation loads are not match with GA drawing’. This may drag time and delay for GA drawing and calculation approval. I used the way below to solve the issue and to promote GA & calculation to be approved.
1. Using a foundation loads & weight summary report table separates the weights and foundation loads from GA drawing. The weights & foundation loads change will not affect GA.
2. Give weights and foundation loads with a sufficient margin.
3. Add some design notes in calculation, i) ‘weight & foundation load’ are estimated and will be considered as a design margin if the value are larger than those in the calculation. ii) Allows to use a higher thickness than the thickness in the calculation depends on the availability at work shop. This will avoid to update drawing & calculation when thickness change subjected to the availability of the material in work shop. If required, leave it in as-built.
4. Using a comments response sheet (CRS) to confirm your further action. A resubmission will only be after closed all comments by client.
