Guys, gals,

I can't seem to find a suitable 3/4 inch weld nut.

I need something that will be welded to 1/2 inch steel plate, so no projections can be present.

A "pilot" type projection is OK, for good centering.

I also need 3/4 inch diameter.

Any ideas?

CoryPad,

Thanks for the suggestion - I was already considering these, but I was wondering if there are weldnuts without the 3 or 6 small projections, to avoid rocking.

Any thoughts?

How many do you need? If it's a relatively high qty say 1000, you could have a screw machine compnay make exactly what you want for not much more than the standards.

tg,

How do you plan to weld them? The projections melt during welding, and the part is compressed, so the resolidified metal is evenly spaced between the nut and sheet metal. By the way, if you stick with parts that have 3 projections, you eliminate rocking since the 3 points define a plane.

Cory

Dave and Cory,

Thanks for the great suggestions.

Cory, I have assumed tack welds to the 1/2 inch plate, possibly 3 of them.

Is this an acceptable appplication of these nuts?

Ahhhhh, you won't be using projection welders.

You could always turn them upside down and hand tack them.

Cory
