Hi,

I have an 2205 duplex welding procedure that allows me to do butt welds under ASME code.
Can I use this welding procedure to do the same welds in 316 stainless steel, or do I need to do a 316 specific procedure ?

The duplex procedure certificate seems to suggest that the 316 P numbers are covered by the procedure, specifically it says P numbers 1 to 15 are qualified.
Any help/clarifications would be appreciated.

Since you mention procedure, Im assuming were talking PQRs, not WPQ(R)'s. Im also assuming this is for ASME BPV Sec IX.
As you haven't mentioned the welding process, Im further assuming QW-403.11 to be applicable as an essential variable (I hope you do know what Essential is, right?)

Now, your answer lies in there. Good luck. (PS: do you own a copy of Sec IX?)

- You never get what you expect, you only get what you inspect.

If your WPS (Welding Procedure Specification) states qualified for P1 to P15 it isn't worth the paper it is printed on.
P1 to P15 is for Welder Qualification - not Welding Procedures.

You are mixing welder qualifications with the welding procedure.
2205 is P10H while 316 is P8.
I will get you started: See QW-423 and QW-424.
