Hello All,

With reference to the subject, can I do that?
The only issue I see with ER347 wire is the Ni is on a lower side 9-11 compared to 10-14(316/316L) and 11-15(317/317L)and also on Moly. I couldn't find anywhere it asks to use or restricts to use. No impact required on job. Per sec IX, I know I can but When you select a weld consumable, the chemistry should match as closely as possible to the BM.
I am concerned about the weld chemistry. Am also aware of the fact that it is a stabilized grade.

Awaiting all the experts, opinion.

Thanks in advance.

Himanshu Naik

Why would you want to use a filler metal that has less pitting corrosion resistance than the base materials. The mismatch will undoubtedly lead to rapid corrosion of the deposited weld metal.

Agree with weldstan. The filler metal should be slightly overmatched for design with corrosion service.

The customer spec says to use the same filler wire on WPS as on PQR and I was thinking of saving a PQR.
I would have to weld 2 different PQRs now just to match the filler wire same as the PQR. Needed to know the technical aspect from the chemistry point of view.
Thanks for the help Weldstan and metengr. Both of you guys have been replying since the beginning. Need to take you guys out for a lunch. Lol

But thanks so much for the help.
Regards,
HMN
