Socket welds are considered fillet welds, and by virtue of qualifying for groove (butt) welds you can qualify for fillet welds. You can have both butt welds and fillet welds in a single WPS. See ASME Section IX QW-202.2 and Table QW-451.4 for guidance.

Yes Iknow that but the client wants me to qualify a socket weld seperate with macro sections done on his test pieces.

The PQR for a fillet weld will be generated similar to a groove weld except that mechanical tests won't be used, macro examination will be used. Read ASME Section IX QW-180 for fillet weld tests and QW-183 for acceptance criteria regarding macro examination.

The issue may be that the butt weld qualification does not verify the contractor understands that the socket must be multipass with controlled (max limitation) weave and correct size. A separate qualification is a way to make sure the contractor has read the spec and will follow its requirements.
