if a welder is qualified to weld CS, P1 to P1 using ER70S electrode and qualified to weld SS, P8 to P8 using ER316 electrode, is this welder qualified to weld per WPS that weld CS to SS with ER308SI electrode?

Thanks metengr for your answer. I am new to this field and would appreciate if you would please point where in Section IX you find this answer?

herrmannm;
Nice to know that you have a copy of ASME Section IX. Now, look at;

Article 3 for general information related to welder performance qualification.

Followed by specific reference to your OP, QW-423, 424, to QW-433.

herrmannm,
I'd also recommend you review QW350 for the essential variables applicable to welders.

Think of QW-350 as your 'cheat sheet' for the welder qualification requirements and limits. Everything in one small, neat chart.

herrmannm - You will need to have a welding procedure specification (WPS) for the P1-P8 process since for all processes P-number is an essential variable QW-255. Additionally you will need to have that WPS appropriately qualified (PQR). I assume that all the positions are already qualified.
