welding A36 and A500 to SAE 1030 cast steel

Looking for some feedback. We've successfully been GMAW welding A36 and A500 to SAE 1030 cast steel using ER70-S3 both CV Spray and modified pulse spray. Asides from the basic WPS parameter controlls we try to stay away from specilize control such as pre/post heat to save cost and training requirements. Recently we've been asked to explore welding A36 and A500 to SAE 1045 caststeel-now we just left the low carbon safety zone- The question is can we pull this off with only using the lowhydrogen variation to the GMAW process?

At this carbon content for the base material (1045), you will at least be into preheat requirements (200 deg F) for welding even with the low hydrogen wire. I would suggest you perform a mock-up and test using ASME B&PV Code, Section IX as a guide. I would confirm this before production.
 
Unless there is some sort of contamination, GMAW is always a low-hydrogen process. If you have a .45% C steel, preheat is generally required even for low hydrogen. The main exception would be welding thin sheets, but if you are welding 1045 castings, that would not be the case.
