I have created a weldment frame with multiple pieces (tubes, angle iron, c-channel, etc), and i now want to detail each individual part on the one sheet. Is there a way to 'explode' the model and place each part on this one sheet, or do i have to import each piece separately and give it the different views? (Each piece has its own part number in windows.)
Im using SW04 and I imported this weldment from a mechanical desktop 3D model.
I have tried creating other weldments in sw04 using the weldment feature, but it seems i still need to bring in each little piece to detail separately...Very time consuming.

Yes there is a way to do this.

Use "Relative view" and you can select the faces of the part that you want to detail. There are two face selections that need to be made.. one selection is the face that want to be the bottom face. and the other that you want to be the front.

See the help file under relative view for more info

hope that helps

Oh.. you can also save that weldment part as an assembly but that opens another can of worms with respect to the cut list and custom properties and such.. try the relative view first.. it should suffice.

I tried that 'Relative view' feature, and it does bring the parts in nicely, but it wont let me bring in multiple parts at once.
How do i save that other weldment as an 'assembly'? I cant seem to find that command under 'save as' or to export.

The Only time that you can bring in multiple parts at the same time is if you create a "sub weldment" i beleive.

To save the weldment part as an assembly right-click on the solid bodies folder in the Feature Manager and select "Create assembly".. name it and click ok!
