Pretty much every calc I've seen has assumed 10degC. I have no reference for the figure other than my predecessors' experience/knowledge, but its a starting point.

I know here in the US, it varies widely. Farther north, they bury the water lines deeper for freeze protection, and have less variation in water temperatures. Farther south, lines are more shallow and more closely match air temperatures. It will also depend on whether water comes from wells or surface water- wells would tend to be the same temperature, I would suppose.

Did you check with your local water supplier?

it also depends where the point of measurement is - at the filtration plant, at the well head, at the reservoir, at the kitchen sink etc. Here in Arizona, in the summer the tap water gets up to around 90 deg F

Thanks kchayfie I know the average is around 10 deg c in the uk but it can go down as low as 4/5deg c winter and as high as 25 deg c Summer . just would be nice to know if anybody out there records it.

suppose it does depend on where it is measured.
