Some have been using NX3 for a wile now. We will be moving to nx3 soon.

I know that nx3 has irritated the longtime users of UG. One is that the biggest change is moving the menus around and making more complex icons.

I really would like your thoughts on this.
Do you like nx3? What are enhancements you like? How do you use them?

Comment about using these
Some Enhancements are
• Now you can interactively customize the main menu bar and the toolbars.
• In NX 3, you can now easily measure distances, lengths, angles, new volumes, and areas. Each new function provides a Keep Measure option allowing you to save the results of each measurement process as expressions that can be referenced by other features
• Global Selection Intent is used more
• DesignLogic is the concept of capturing the designer’s intent in the parametric model. This changes the appearance of the feature dialogues so that you can easily use and edit reference expressions and formulas.
• Associative curve and arc features
• Text to Geometry (Text) generates NX curves

I know you asked for things we like about NX3, but there are things I don't like as well.
-I like the view sectioning capabilities very much.
-Associative curves and points are a huge step in the right direction.
-I feel that the measure distance feature has taken a step backwards in that multiple measurements take more mouse clicks.
-Icons don't always stay where they are saved.
-Some operations, such as thicken sheet, don't work as well as in previous releases. Thickened bodies created in NX1 don't always regenerate in NX3 (I have opened a IR regarding this).

As others have posted elsewhere, UGS needs to slow down on the enhancements and fix the current problems.

dangit ewh you're right again!!

As far as enhancements are concerned, in my opinion the best one's are in the CAM package. I've been on 3 since it was first released so I've forgotten most of the improvements by now!..lol. I do remember running around showing guys what they can do now for the first couple weeks so I know there are some cool improvements!...lol. But like ewh said....they need to stop adding features and start fixing all the stuff that's broke. There have been issues since I started using UG back on v8 or 9 (can't remember...lol) that still aren't fixed...the 2d translators would be a great example. Another great example would be how you're constantly "kicked" out of a routine when it bombs rather than being able to fix the problem without having to start all over again...i.e. "through curve mesh" intersection errors. Little things like this would greatly improve the overall experience of running UG all day long but rather than address them they focus more on adding new stuff to "keep up with the Jones'".

I'm always telling myself that I need to write all these little function annoyances down throughout the day but I never seem to do it....lol.

Take care....

HellBent (Automotive) your right,
- your curve through mesh example is very good
have you testet the newer function in shape studio, Studio Surface I guess more capability more clicks but why why it is only in shape studio and not in standard freeform?
My opinion F*** licening. Another an frustration are the ok or apply dialogs. The assembly active part color change does not apply in the displayed part. Blanking in the ant
is not the same as by shortcut. ....
to be continued
