I design a lot of liquid containing sanitary structures and our standard construction joint detail has always used PVC waterstops. The PVC waterstops are quite labor intensive to install, kind of messy at intersections and always leave some doubt as to how well they remain positioned during concrete placement. Lately, I have been using preformed adhesive type(Synkoflex) waterstop on more incidental applications and am considering making a change to our standard detail. Our typical heads are only 10 to 20 feet. What does everyone else use for waterstops and does anyone have any experience, good or bad, with the Synkoflex type of waterstops? Thanks.

I use Hydrotite by Greenstreak when there isn't a tank lining. Hydrotite does not expand as much as bentonite waterstops and doesn't have the blowout problem. If there is a tank lining, I use PVC as a secondary containment. The swellable waterstops need to be continuously wet to function properly.
