Hi all,

I am just wandering what gas is best to cut galv steel sheet? Oxygen is cheaper to cut with due to the lower pressure requried, but the cut quality doesn't seem to be as good on galv. I have been getting a very clean cut on 3mm galv steel using Nitrogen. Should i be able to use oxygen on galv or is it best to just use nitrogen?

Any advice given is much appreciated.

Best regards, SJClaser!

No, not tried air as we don't have a high pressure line and compressor. Just Oxygen and Nitrogen.

try with nitrogen ... this probably the gas compatible for cutting galvanized

Hi, thanks for all the replys!
Can i ask why not oxygen? Ive tried it and got it cutting pritty clean! Does the oxidisation affect how well the galvanise protects the metal from rust?
Thanks,
SJClaser!

Yes it does give off Zinc Oxide which can be hazardous over time.
