What happened to extract edges in drafting mode in NX6?

All,

I used to be able to expand a view on a drafting sheet and extract the endges/curves. I cannot seem to find the extract edges ability in NX6. I've read the help and it only seems to talk about how to set associative preferences for extracted edges. Has this ability been removed?

I use this ability when creating dwg files. It's been my experience that 2D exchange works best when creating 2D DWG files. However, to get good drawings of assemblies with complete views I've always had to extract the edges first. For part files this step was unecessary.

So, can someone please tell me where extract edges moved to or explain why 2D exchange won't export all of the lines/curves of assembly views?

Thanks in advance,
Aaron

While looking at the drawing, select (but do NOT expand) the view(s) of interest, press MB3, select 'Style', in the General tab, change the 'Extracted Edges' setting from 'None' to 'Associative' and then hit OK.

Ahhh.... That's what the help said, sorta. I just didn't make the correlation that it automatically extracts the curves when you select the associative option. I thought it simply was a setting to pick wether or not you wanted the curves to be associative. I did toggle that option and blanked the components to see if edges were extracted but none showed up. Being that they are associative are they then automatically blanked/removed as a result? It's especially handy to have extracted curves that are visible without the model for drawings of large assemblies. It allows you to quickly view the drawing for reference purposes without having the actual large assembly loaded. Also, it seems when you use the 2D exchange and select "current drawing" as an option it gives you sheet 1 no matter what (at least in my attempts) even if you are staring directly at sheet 2. I had to choose "selected drawing" and pick sheet 2 to force it to give it to me.

Aaron

hmmm... if I open a drawing file without loading the model the extracted edges are there, but it appears that if the model is loaded and I blank it the extracted edges disappear. I will have to experiment some more to verify. Still, if it works as above it should still be very useful.

By definition, the 'associative' extracted curves are still 'associated' with the Component, hence when you hide the Component, we honor your request.
