Does square groove mean no groove?It is said that the maximum thickness of plate applicable to square groove is 10mm.
Kindly please experts here advise.

I'm assuming this is a reference to a prequalified weld per AWS D1.1

I suppose there are also some other factors that matter, like welding process and material...
For manual processes, 10 mm is a big stretch. For lab and special applications, 50 - 100 mm has been done.
 
A square groove is defined as the edge prep on a Butt joint. Basically, square corners with no angles. Process and Group have a lot to do with the max thickness. For example, I would not want to weld a square groove butt joint in Inconel in the GTAW process at 10 mm thick.
