Hi,

What ist he benefits of pouring basin in steel casting ?

We don't use it but we think to use pouring basin in order to get a less defects like porosisties and inclusions ? inspite of the pouring basin icrease the yield !

What is the advantges and the disavantges of the pouring basin in steel casting for parts bettween 1 and 15 tons ?

There are no disadvantages in using a pouring basin. Pouring basins are made of refractory materials like fireclay or alumina. These are very popular in steel ingot making industry.

Use of a basin ensures a smooth and uniform flow into the mold without any interruption.

The use of pouring basin results in maintaining uniform head from the start to end of pouring. Thus there will be no air aspirations, mold wash, or turbulence in metal flow. Also if a special type of pouring basin is used having a dam wall ,it will ensure entrapment of slag inclusions and let clean metal enter the mold.

It is highly recommended to use for the quantity of liquid metal you wish to handle.

Hope this helps in your producing castings with less air entrapments, and inclusions.

Thanks is pouring basin widely used in steel casting industry ? have you an idea ?

Yes, it is used often, when you need to produce radiographically sound casting.
