I came across a term 'characteristic value of response spectrum' in the literature in relation to seismic design of structure. Can anyone kindly elaborate the meaning of this term used in earthquake engineering?
How can one find characteristic value of a design (acceleration) response spectrum ?

I am not sure which seismic code you are looking ..

But if you look EC-8, the characteristic value of response spectrum is the peak ground acceleration for the subject reference return period..

@HTURKAK Thank you so much for replying. The question I have asked is irrespective of any seismic code. Can you please refer the location/clause number in EC-8 where i can find the definition of the 'Characteristic value of response spectrum'.

Thank You.

Characteristic value of any load/action means "unfactored". This is the value before any factors of safety are applied. It is the same for the seismic action. According to the definition in §1.6.2. of Eurocode 8:

AEd = γI.AEk
