I want to have the config.win running all the times I open Pro/E. I put that file in the start working directory, but it does not load automatically. Anyone knows the comment in config.pro to setup the loading path for config.win? Thanks a lot.

About Configuration Files (config.pro and config.win)
You can customize the look and feel of Pro/ENGINEER and the way in which Pro/ENGINEER runs by setting options in a configuration file. Pro/ENGINEER contains two important configuration files: config.pro and config.win. The config.pro file is a text file that stores all of the settings that define the way in which Pro/ENGINEER handles operations. The config.win file is a database file that stores window configuration settings, such as toolbar visibility settings and Model Tree location settings. Each setting in the configuration files is called a configuration option.

Pro/ENGINEER provides default values for each option. You can set or change the configuration options. Some of the options you can set are:
• Tolerance display formats
• Calculation accuracy
• The number of digits used in sketcher dimensions
• Toolbar contents
• Relative button order on a toolbar
• Location and size of the Model Tree

A Note About config.sup
Config.sup is a protected system configuration file. Your company system administrator uses this file to set configuration options that are used on a company-wide basis. Any values that are set in this file cannot be overridden by other (more local) config.pro or config.win files.

How Pro/ENGINEER Reads Configuration Files at Startup
Pro/ENGINEER reads configuration files automatically from several areas. If a particular option is present in more than one configuration file, Pro/ENGINEER applies the most current setting.

At startup, Pro/ENGINEER first reads in a protected system configuration file called config.sup. It then searches for and reads in configuration files (config.pro and config.win) from the following directories in the following order:

1. loadpoint/text (loadpoint is the Pro/ENGINEER installation directory) ? Your system administrator may have put configuration files in this location to support company standards for windows configuration settings, formats and libraries. Any user starting Pro/ENGINEER from this loadpoint uses the values in this file.

2. Login directory ? This is the home directory for your login ID. Placing your configuration files here lets you start Pro/ENGINEER from any directory without having a copy of the files in each directory.

3. Startup directory ? This is your current or working directory when you start Pro/ENGINEER.
Notes: The local config.pro and config.win files (in your startup directory) are the last to be read; therefore, they override any conflicting configuration file option entries. The config.pro file does not, however, override any config.sup entries.

You can create and store custom configuration files in your current working directory. These custom configuration files usually apply to specific projects.

Nice Tip Heckler!

I often store my own mapkeys in a file called allmapkeys.pro and also like to use Flyouts to combine my datum display, tag display and datum create icons in one toolbar.

Because of this I usually I create a Mapkey that once Pro is opened I run to open and aplly the mapkeys in my mapkey file and open my config.win.

As long as I keep both of theese files in a consistent directory on my machine I get to keep all my settings with me no matter where I work.

If you happen to work at a company that uses their own mapkeys that have the same key commands as mine such as dd for datum display etc. these can easily be changed by opening my allmapkey file in a text editor or doing it from the Options window in Pro.

If you don't want to use a mapkey, you can also save your trailfile after loading and applying your settings and run that when you start Pro.

Heckler,

You should make this a FAQ.

Thanks Heckler,

Your explanation is so details.

Copied right out of a PTC manual.

I would suggest that everyone download the Help Topic collection from the PTC web site. It has all of the help manuals in it for all modules of Pro/E. I keep a copy of the Wildfire2 and Wildfire3 manuals in separate folders on my desktop.

looslib,

You mean in "Search the Knowledge Base" of ptc.com

Select Support
Download Reference Documents under Self Help
Login with yur username/password
Enter the following information:
Prodcut: Pro/Engineer
Release: Wildfire 2.0 or Wildfire 3.0
Document Type: Help Topic Collections
User Role: All User Roles
Then hit Browse

Dowload the zip file, expand it to a folder and there you have all of the PRo/E manuals.

This is right out of the help directory. This is what I did when I had to get up & running on Pro/e 2001 after taking a very long break from using Pro/e rev 16. I would copy the contents out of the help file into a word document. I have a lot of help documents that I have created from the Pro/e help and the many websites.

Here is a website that was a big help to me Eldon is very helpful replying to my e-mails for help and once helped me with a complex part since I didn't have advance surfacing module.

I followed looslib's instructions to get to the help topics documentation (never would have figured that out on my own!), but I haven't been able to download it so far. I entered my username and password, and even went back to doublecheck that I remembered it correctly, but when I click the link to download, nothing happens :-(

Any ideas?

Are you getting into the system and able to find the file?
