What is the most diference between ASME against ASTM

Dear ALL

Kindly advise me, what si the most diference between ASME against ASTM ?

Please also advise me whether mill symbol must be put on the Steel Plate SA 516 Gr 70.

ASTM provides, amoung other things, material specifications, such as A516. The A is for ferritic materials.

ASME provides codes and standards, and the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code includes material specifications for use with that Code, in Section II of the Code. They adopt, and sometimes modify, the ASTM specifications, and the number of the ASME specification begins with an S, e.g. SA516. These are specifications approved for use with with the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code.

You can get dual stamped (e.g. A516/SA516 materials) indicating compliance with both specifications.
 
ASME is an organization that develops codes in affiliation with other organizations. For example fired and unfired pressure vessel codes are written by the ASME. ASTM develops procedures used for testing. For example, a company with a rheological research lab will conduct a research procedure in accordance to established ASTM procedure. A company with a QC department may calibrate their testing equipment per a ASTM procedure.
