Hey all,

A mate of mine (a very good engineer with more than 50 years in engineering - hydro mainly) took this picture from his Kuala Lumpur Apartment - he had no idea what it is and I do not know either. Any thoughts??

The blueish, draped sheets are either the "excavation support system" (sheeting?) or are meant to hide the steep, unsafe, barely sloped sides of the excavation. The reddish contraption looks like it may be some type of concrete bucket for a crane to place concrete into the drilled shafts. Just my guess!

The blue sheets, John, definitely for slope protection . . . standard practice in KL - but it is the funny contraption . . . don't see how they can drop concrete through it and maintain a drop of no more than 1.5 to 2 m . . . weird . . . but you may be right!

I thought concrete bucket too, but it looks very unusual.

The bottom bit of the red thing is hardly some sort of drill head?

I'm working on it - will contact some KL geotechs I know . . .
