From NFPA 20 2013 Ed

Most times we see automatic sprinkler protection, see table below for fire separation with and without sprinkler protection.

Table 4.12.1.1.2 Equipment Protection

But if you have a diesel driven pump you will need sprinklers in the room, see below.

4.12.1.3 Fire Pump Buildings or Rooms with Diesel Engines.
Fire pump buildings or rooms enclosing diesel engine pump drivers and day tanks shall be protected with an automatic sprinkler system installed in accordance with NFPA 13, Standard for the Installation of Sprinkler Systems.

Don't forget that NFPA 20 doesn't just require sprinklers, 20-13 11.3.3 requires extra hazard grp. 2 in the pump room. That 500 gpm hose allowance can be a killer when you've got a poor water supply.

WHAT ABOUT DOMESTIC PUMP ROOM AND CENTER HEATER

Just protect all the rooms with automatic sprinkler system and you could sleep without worries.

Good day!

If it is a fire pump, there is a requirement in the NFPA-20 as mentioned above.

As an advised, you could go through some code (e.g. NFPA-1, NFPA-101, NFPA-5000) to know the requirements for this and be reminded that if you have equipments in a room, i suppose you will have to consider it to be a mechanical or equipment room which you could find a requirements in the code.

Hope it helps,
