Hello,

Does anyone know the difference between ASTM A1018 and ASTM A36? Especially for plate with a thickness between 6 mm to 25 mm. Which spec is best to use for this size range of plates?

Thanks in advance.

Whatcha making?
Have you done any pricing? Cost is often a component of "better" .

I believe Google will deliver some useful hits on that exact search.

For one thing, A36 is ugly hot rolled. 1018 is available as handsome cold rolled sheet in pretty well controlled thicknesses, so may be useful as-is .

A36 is structural steel plates and structural shapes intended for structural applications such as construction, bridges, and alike. A1018 is a broader spec that includes numerous grades including microalloyed and HSLA grades as well as carbon steeland applies to to heavy-thickness sheet and coils.

Thank you guys. It's really helpful.
