ASTM A578 is required for clad carbon steel seamless pipe ( accepting criteria Level C ). I normally use ASTM A388 for testing. So I would like to know the difference in A388 and A578 test procedure.

hsemus, apparently specifying to standards you have no copy of? How do you know what you are specifying and what you're getting?

A388 is UT of forgings, permits straight and angle beam examination, contains no specific acceptance criteria.

A578 is UT of plate, plain and clad, straight beam and contains three levels of acceptance. It's possible the methods may not be suitable for pipe, I don't know enough about UT to say.

Please go and red-flag your other posts on the subject.

Mike
