I am not an RF engineer, but I am working with UHF satcom and would like to build a small portable Satellite simulator. The simulator needs a 41MHz 1dBm Rf input to up/down convert the uplink to the downlink. In the lab I use a large bench top HP signal generator to provide this signal.

I am wondering if anyone can point me to where I could get something, preferably small, that I could use in the HP's place. I would like to build a portable test box that would include a UHF radio, signal generator, mixers, attenuators, and splitters all in one rugged pelican case. It is the sig-gen that I need help finding. I have seen a lot of USB versions but I would prefer that the test case be standalone without needing a separate PC to control a USB siggen. A fixed frequency of 41.000Mhz would be perfect.

I could possibly build one but would prefer to buy.

For similar work, we bought this one (link below). It needs a laptop or PC (and its SW) to program, but once programmed it requires only USB power, such as from a $10 Li-ion battery pack with the typical USB power socket. It's supposed to go as low as 34.4 MHz, so 41 MHz is within range. The seller was pleasant and easy to deal with.
