Ladies and Gentlemen,

Where can I exactly go to get a full description of what "Out of the Box" Set of Attributes are provided with NX6, and a description of what each one is composed of (i.e. field length, etc.)?

I assume when you say 'Attributes' that you mean system-generated attributes which objects get assigned upon creation?

The only easy to find list that I can think of is the list of system attributes assigned to Components of an Assembly, which are subsequently available when generating a Parts List. You can find these by launching the User Documentation and doing a search on 'Parts List Attributes' and select the first item which actually reads 'Parts List Attributes'.

Perhaps if you start us off with a partial list then we'd know what you're getting at.

Hudson888 - Partial list is as follows:

DB_OCC_UID
DB_PART_DESC
DB_PART_NAME
DB_PART_NO
DB_PART_REP_TIMESTAMP
DB_PART_REV
DB_PART_TYPE

JohnRBaker - Your first sentence of your answer pretty much sums it up. Working on a new project where I need to dicpher a laundry list of attributes - and I am trying identify the standard "OTB" items that autogenerated by NX, before the users start assigning their own - either manually or by other means.

Are you running Teamcenter?

The list that you've shown above look to me like attributes that are added to files by teamcentre. A few of them are not editable from within NX under teamcentre for example db_part_name is recognisable as such. You can see the list for any given part file by simply going into File>Properties and checking under the Attributes Tab

I suspect that some of those attributes may also be found under Format Database Attributes. I don't have teamcentre running so by all means let us know what you find there if anything.

Anyway I hope that this helps.

Sorry John, no such luck. Working within TeamCenter 2007 (patch 1.4), clicked Help and got:

Help Library F2
Current Application F1

<clicked Help Library> and ran a search on 'Parts List Attributes' and got a lot of items (but none that specifically had the words Parts List Attributes in the short blurb about the link.

Thanks - I am able to view the list via the File > Properties - which is nice for single part reviews. I am unable to use Format > Database > Attributes, however.

Been following what John was trying to show me - given that I am looking for what is preset in NX before the part is created.

I don't know that ANYTHING is present in NX before the part is created. There has to be a part to contain the attributes. I think you're alluding to the fact that they are linked with the variables under an Item Master in Teamcenter. Most of those are created when you first save the part file, but if that is your interpretation I may be persuaded we're on the same wavelength.

As for the "Database Attributes" button I'm not entirely surprised if it is greyed out. Since it seems that what you're describing are in fact database attributes what insight I can offer is that some are more or less consistent across most implementations of Teamcenter, but how and where they're used may be influenced by your local site configuration. Which is just to suggest that if your Teamcenter administrator doesn't know then you may struggle to get a definitive list. On implementations I've seen elsewhere there are literally hundreds of variable fields only a few of which cross over into NX from Teamcenter and of these they aren't all the same from site to site. The answer may well be that what you're after isn't as "out of the box" as we may have presumed. Having opened a few files ex-Teamcenter from different sources the attributes contained therein have a few common names but several are indeed different.

Is there any chance you could just tell us what you're trying to achieve by the way? This is all very interesting but why wouldn't you open a bunch of files and check the attributes found under File>Properties>Attributes in order to draw a few reasonable conclusions of your own?

Oh God, I would love to dive into the description of this issue in minute detail, with screenshots and all the accompanying acutrama. However, given the rather lengthy confidentiality agreements I signed with my company – and the client’s attitude towards intellectual property agreements – I am a bit hard pressed to divulge without getting a slap on the wrist and/or a pink slip.

However what I can say is this:

I am working with the Client's TCVis data - and a question has been raised as to the origin of the 400+ (not a typo) attributes contained within the various .jt files for some of the larger assemblies. While trying to define each attribute's status and origin - the additional question of what attributes are automatically assigned to a .prt file when it is created, versus any additional attributes created by the user by themselves and/or added on by the client's various automated processes and/or the client's vast array of worldwide suppliers/customers that share the data.

Hudson888, you are very, very correct in pointing out that TeamCenter customizations can be done so that a variety of attributes can be assigned to a .prt file at the time of creation - whether they were a standard set provided by TC program, or if they were additional attributes created by the client.

At this point - what I am looking for is that standard set provided by the TC program - straight out of the box when TC is installed fresh.

I'd say that you'd probably be better to contact somebody inside the PLMS Teamcenter area in that case.

<sigh> Had a feeling I would have to - just hoping to do this without the GTAC numbers. Thanks anyway for the insights.
