I am looking for a copy of the 2012 building code. I'm not sure what a reasonable cost is to pay for it. I've found a site selling it for $324 but i've also found a site selling the 2010 for $138. But I've also found a couple sites selling old versions of the code for about $300.
Does anyone know of a good site or store in the city to pick one up?
Thanks

Google something like "code books" There are a couple of companies that specialize in that. And the books are NOT cheap!!

Per the below sites you can get a hard copy for $295 and a CD for $223.

Attached is a copy of their order form.

As EOR's we should take the responsibility to design our structures to support the components we allow in our design per that industry standards.

Geez, that's pretty pricey for a local jurisdiction's building code. New Orleans offers their building code as a free PDF download.

You can view the Chicago Code for free by one of the links above. You just cannot view the full document at once. Only one piece at a time so it may be easier to buy a hard copy.
More and more of the larger AHJ are making the code viewable online to meet the requirement of allowing the public free access to the code as required by the law. Before you had to go to the place they had the hard copy to look and copy from it.
The nice thing about the California State and the City of Phoenix Building Codes is that being based on the IBC I can look things up in my copy of the IBC first than check them online for any AHJ changes.

I too have recently been looking for the Chicago Building Code online. The link WWTEng provides is some old, old version of the code. If you start reading Chapter 16 you'll know what I mean. I even emailed the City of Chicago, and they told me to go to but I can't find it there either. The only thing I really found in my web search is that I can buy it, for $325! What a deal! I'm doing a small update to an existing building and I'd have to cough up a good chunk of my fee for the few bits of information I need. So much for free access... the Chicago way.

Good to know spats. I H?>< it when the AHJ website gives incorrect information. There should be laws against it. But then I guess the AHJ still would not do anything to themselves.
IMHO by law they do need to provide free access to the laws. But who wants to go to wherever they have the code to look and/or copy it.

Yeah, $325 is pretty steep. Although, like spats also said, that might be considered cheap around here! I guess I'll have to bit the bullet and buy it for that price.
