They are important so that you know that the data you are receiving / controlling on / triggering safety devices etc is accurate.

This a statement of the bleeding obvious. (to paraphrase Basil Fawlty).

Remember - More details = better answers
Also: If you get a response it's polite to respond to it.
 
What is the first step in calibrations? Measuring the 'as found' condition.
That way you know if it was out, and by how much in which direction.
This alone is vital information, much less then knowing that it reading accurately.

TS: Are you of the opinion that the calibration of a pressure transmitter will never change from its factory settings?
