dear all
we meet a problem that the high speed steel (M2/M42) can attract steel like a magnet.we have checked the chemical composition, the result show that its all right.
and now the serious problem is how can weremove the magnetism.
thanks for your feedback.

What is the shape of the part?

And, can you remove the part(s) ? from their current position to allow them to be handled individually?

round bar, as follow picture:

Steel can be made into a magnetic by aligning it with the earths magnetic field and striking it.

Steel can be degaused with a degausing coil, however it might become magnetic again as stated above.

How are you handling the steel, and would a degausing coil in the process be helpful?

Dumb question, but what is this steel being used for? Is this grade for a purpose of strength, corrosion, or magnetic properties?

Well, that was the purpose of my question; Steel (high speed, machine tool, or simple low carbon) can be de-magnetized by passing it through a coil, but "how to" pass it through the demagetizing coil, and when and why it should easiest passed through the coil are different matter.

Doing the whole bar before machining is fastest, but requires extra handling and an extra-long way to load the bar, pass it through the magnet, then receive the bar on the other side and move it somewhere else; but why do feel it needs to be de-magnetized?

A whole bunch of small machined parts can be run through the demagnetizing coil on a belt, but each little part is almost certain to be at a different position and orientation. That might matter to the final magnetic field. If it matters at all.

I would strongly suggest that you red flag and re-post in forum340 which is more relevant to your subject than this forum.

Of course I can. I can do anything. I can do absolutely anything. I'm an expert!
