Where did PTC say that you can open a WF part in 2001?

This has been discussed in numorous places. They never directly said that. What they have done is enhanced the ATB, but you cannot open a WF part directly in 2001 nor can you do a save as in WF to 2001.

Be sure you know what you do since you will not be able to read files generated in Wildfire with the older program, 2001.

Of special interest to those making a transition might be the Menu Mapper tool.

This utility will help you learn the improved menu structure of Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire, based upon the menu paths you used in releases 2000i^² and 2001. To find out new menu locations, simply navigate through the menus located in this utility.

I used it today to figure out how to create a flat surface. Went from 5 menu picks to just two!

Wildfire 2.0 : Edit > Fill
2001 : Feature > Create > Surface > New > Flat

Well, they claimed it to be backwards compatible (for instance at the pro-engineer user day in the netherlands 2002). So far it's not. Same goes for "less mouse clicks": not true. For some features it is, but in many others not.

One thing that was claimed, and has become reality: the cost of Pro Engineer has gone up!

Yes, the next release of Pro/ENGINEER will be the first Pro/ENGINEER release to support cross-release interoperability. This means you will be able to save files in a format that can be read into Pro/ENGINEER releases 2001, 2000i2 and even 2000i. You will not be able to modify designs that have been brought into these earlier releases from Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire, but you will be able to use them to generate deliverables like drawings and toolpaths. These representations will also have an Associtive Topology Bus (ATB) link back to the original designs in Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire, so that if you change your models in Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire, models being used in the earlier versions will update as well.

I believe in WildFire, you need to set something in the config that lets you "save-as" 2001.
WHen you do this, you will be able to open it up and see the features in the model tree, only catch is that you cannot modify them.

But you would be able to add more features.

I forget what the config option is that you need to set, maybe someone knows this??

Oh, and I hate to get off topic, but is there a way to make a Composite Datum Curve in WFv1?
I thought Comp Curves were great for doing surfacing in 2001 since you can set them to 'Approx' and when referencing them in blends, it would greatly reduce surface patches.
I just can't seem to find it in WF B-(

There is no option to allow you to save a Wildfire part so it can be opened in 2001. The only methods are: neutral file format, STEP or IGES.

I found it.
Yeah, you need to enable in the config:
topobus_enable yes

You need to save the file as a Neutral though (like you said looslib).

This may sound like a really basic question, but is anyone having problems printing? We had previously been using 2000i and dropped the licence for solid works...we returned under the deal PTC offered that makes it cheaper to return than to stay with Solid Works. We changed printers as well and now everything that was created using a full size plotter, I'm trying to print on an 11 x 17 HP cp1700 and having alot of trouble, is there an easy way to do this?
I've tried scaling but it doesnt do anything to the original format, just the part.
