I am trying to use a string parameter in the properties feature name field so that later name changes can be simplified into the change of one parameter which will affect all locations where that name is referenced, such as open body name, geometric element name. I have an aircraft skin that has several pieces of core located in fwd to aft sections. I have a naming scheme for them like 1A1= row-top-1st peice, 3B2= 3rd row-middle-2nd piece, etc. In the event I have to split a piece into two, I will have to rename the subsequent pieces in that row and section. This rename touches several open bodies and elements. It would be nice if each of the feature names, such as an openbody of construction elements for the core piece, would reference a string parameter inside the name that controls the basic location symbol.
Example:
Openbody name = string parameter & "construction" = 1A1 construction
Surface name = "Surface" & string parameter = Surface 3B2

I hold little hope that this can actually done outside of more complicated VB programming; but, who knows... It's worth a shot.

If not, I can submit an enhancement request.

Apparently, only the top level of the tree is re-nameable via formula. These are parameters that are used in knowledge templates, part catalogs, and design tables.

You may want to see if you can have someone script a rule or reaction for this. Even then, there may be some VB required, but it would probably be the easiest solution.
