How does pv elite calculates the wind moment for vortex shedding+ operating case?? Im not being able to get the ans present there. if anybody is familiar with the process then please do reply.
Select to perform vortex shedding calculations on tall, slender vertical vessels susceptible to wind-induced oscillations. This method is documented in the National Building Code of Canada and in texts on wind engineering. The software calculates fatigue stresses based on loads generated by wind vibration and the number of hours of safe operation remaining under vibration conditions. The software calculates the likelihood of this occurrence based on the research of Zorilla and Mahajan. If there is no possibility of wind vibration and you have this option selected, the software warns you that unrealistically high stresses will result and gives you the option to turn this calculation off.
For vertical vessels in which the height to diameter ration is less than 15, select the No Vortex Shedding for H/D <= 15 field to not perform vortex shedding calculations.
I got the same ans upto the shear force calculation but couldn't understand how the moment is being calculated. For the base does it sum up the force in centre of each individual element to its base?? does the vortex shedding load gets added to the normal load and then only the moment is calculated?
For "cantilever" structures, you have a distributed force loading consisting of a time averaged forced (drag) and oscillating lift and oscillation drag components.
With velocity with varying along the span, with proper element size and proper modal analysis, yes the bending moment and shear stresses in each element is calculated directly unless you are considering inelastic materials that are stress dependent...

Here the column marked in yellow is shear force of wind and moment of wind respectively. The problem is that i cant figure out how the moment is calculated by pv elite?? i have attached the al the details.. please put some light on it
Pv elite has two reports one at the design summary is calculated as u said. but the one you have stated here at the wind and earthquake load section is a bit confusing. Don't know which moment they have calculated. Maybe you should look into the forums of Pv elite.
