Your question is so vague that it is impossible to answer. If I was to ask, "I am a structural engineer. I would like to size a pump by horsepower. Is there an easy way to do it?", you would consider that an impossible request. There are many types of columns. They have many different types of loadings. That's why we go to all those structural engineering classes in college.
If you want to design a column, contact a structural engineer.
