Friends:

I have a question on IBC 2000 wind load calculation procedure using simplified methos for building below 60 ft. high. Why do we get different results from the simplified and the general analytical method? I found that the simplified provision yields significantly lower wind pressure values than the general analytical method. The simplified pressure values given on IBC tables are combined windward and leeward pressures, as the IBC says. Can we design simple diaphragm building of regular size using the simplified wind pressures.

Any answers to this question is appreciated.

Which analytical methodology (Figure 6-3 or Figure 6-4 ASCE 7-98) are you comparing to the Simplified Procedure? It should be following Figure 6-4, although I have never personally checked it.
